Tetramethoxysilane (Methyl orthosilicate, TMOS) is a highly active silicate monomer, colorless, transparent and volatile liquid. It can rapidly hydrolyze and condense to form silica when exposed to water. It is used to prepare silica sol, nano silica and inorganic coatings, and also serves as crosslinking agent and surface treatment agent.
