Methyltriethoxysilane
Methyltriethoxysilane (MTES) is an alkylsilane, colorless transparent liquid. It contains one methyl group and three hydrolyzable ethoxy groups in the molecule. Ethoxy groups hydrolyze into silanol in the presence of moisture and condense with hydroxyl groups on inorganic substrates. The methyl group provides hydrophobicity and organic compatibility. It can be used as crosslinker, surface modifier for inorganic powder and sol-gel precursor, featuring moderate reactivity and good storage stability.
